Ronkonkoma Information

Ronkonkoma is a hamlet on Long Island in the Towns of Islip and Brookhaven, Suffolk County.

Ronkonkoma comes from an Algonquian expression meaning "boundary fishing-lake".  In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Lake Ronkonkoma was known as a summer resort area. There were a few hotels in town that allowed guests to enjoy the lake front from May through the summer and fall months.

Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island's largest freshwater lake, has a circumference of about 2 miles. The lake is owned by the Town of Islip under the terms of the Nichols Patent.

Ronkonkoma is home to Long Island MacArthur Airport, which is owned and operated by the Town of Islip. The Long Island Railroad also offers service to New York's Penn Station.
