      Sayville was the oyster capital of United States, which provides for a bustling marine industry, and plenty of well known restaurants. Access to Sayville has been made easier to visitors, since the arrival of the railroad in 1868. Vacationers continue to be lured by Fire Island, which is situated just across the Great South Bay.

      Today, Fire Island ferry service is provided from Sayville to the Pines, Cherry Grove, Sunken Forest, and Sailor's Haven.

      The Sayville Historical Society, located at the Edward's Homestead in quiet South Sayville was built in 1838, and is Sayville's oldest existing house, conducts programs and hosts events in which visitors can temporarily return to colonial times and enjoy a simpler way of life, even for just a few hours.
      At the Edward's Homestead, visitors can experience an event specific to all seasons, and holidays. Other points of historical interest are located on Middle Road, Montauk Highway, River Road, Brown's River Road, and Edwards Street.

      Connecting farmhouses dating back to 1796, Middle Road was laid out in 1834, and is named for the function It served. Although there are many areas to visit along Middle Road, one particular point of interest is St. Ann's Cemetery. The picturesque grounds of this historic site are home to the final resting place of many famous locals such as the Suydam, Roosevelt, Post, and Smith family names.

      The Sayville Inn, also on Middle Road, is an old time tavern which was built in 1888.
      Along Montauk Highway (Main Street), one can find the Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Bureau, which is situated on the corner of Lincoln Avenue.

      By traveling west on Main Street, tourists will pass through the Village of Sayville. One may take care of all of their shopping needs, since the charming store fronts offer everything from fashionable clothing, to pharmaceutical, to unique gifts, and house wares.

      River Road is home to fhe Fire Island Ferries, which were originally located in West Sayville, and have been operated for four generations by the Stein family. Westin's Boat Yard, which was founded by Doug Westin is settled on River Road. Doug Westin was a great sailor, and won mony races on the Great South Bay.

      Looking for a great night out?  The Land's End catering hall is located on Brown's River Road, and was built in 1923, by Northam Warren, a Connecticut native, and avid boater.

      Adjacent to Sayville proper, the West Sayville Country Club offers apublic golf course on the Great South Bay with views of Fire Island. The country club is settled on the former estate of Florence and Anson Hard, which was completed in 1910, and later purchased by Suffolk County in 1966.

      With a charming business district, sandy beaches, and the railroad centrally located, Sayville is a great town to live, work and play.
